Missouri Lawyers Re-Elect McCarthy to Board of Governors; Dunn to Young Lawyers’ Section Council

Karen McCarthy, President and CEO of The Bar Plan Mutual Insurance Company, was re-elected to serve as a member of The Missouri Bar Board of Governors; and Whittney Dunn, Risk Manager, was re-elected to the Young Lawyers’ Section Council. They will take office at the conclusion of the 2018 Annual Meeting of The Missouri Bar in September.

Karen has served as President & CEO of The Bar Plan since 2002, but started in 1995 as a claims attorney. “Through my work at The Bar Plan, I have had a unique opportunity to see inside law firms of all sizes and structures which has enabled me to better understand the challenges lawyers face managing their practice and managing their risks.  I want to continue to use this experience to help The Missouri Bar find ways to be a better partner for Missouri lawyers, to offer services and resources that lawyers really need to be happier, more productive and less stressed,” Karen said.

Karen has been a current member of The Missouri Bar Board of Governors since 2013, and previously served on the Board of Governors from 2000 to 2006. Karen served on the Missouri Bar Young Lawyers Section Council from 1998 to 2000. Karen has also served in leadership and committee roles for The Missouri Bar, including the Real Property Committee, the Probate and Trust Committee, the Insurance Law Committee and the Professionalism Committee, and was assigned to start and Chair the Corporate Pro Bono Committee.

Whittney Dunn started at The Bar Plan in 2016 as Risk Manager.  “As your representative, I will continue to work to enhance the professional growth and public service of young and recently admitted Missouri attorneys,” Whittney said.

Whittney travels throughout the nation educating attorneys about legal ethics and malpractice avoidance, and providing guidance to Missouri attorneys when ethical issues arise. She is also active in the Young Lawyers’ Divisions of the American Bar Association and the Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis. As a YLS Council Member, she was selected as the Missouri Bar Young Lawyers Delegate to the ABA House of Delegates, co-chaired the Continuing Legal Education Committee, and received an award for Outstanding Service to the Council.
