The Bar Plan Foundation 17th Annual Golf Tournament
The Courses at Forest Park
St. Louis, MO

August 31, 2010
A Message from the Tournament Committee

Since the inception of The Bar Plan Foundation Golf Tournament, the sponsors and participants have raised more than $250,000 for various charities throughout Missouri.

The tournament offers prizes including team prizes, raffles, a putting contest and a day of fun! For more information, contact Christina Lewis Abate at 314-965-3333 x121.

Golf has been played in Forest Park since 1912. The original courses were designed by Scotsman Robert Foulis, who started out as an assistant to Tom Morris at the Old Course at St. Andrews. The original "flat nine" opened in 1912. A second nine was completed the following year and the third nine was finished in 1915. The Courses at Forest Park have played host to numerous events over the last nine decades, including the 1929 National Public Links Championship.

In the fall of 2001, The Courses at Forest Park underwent a complete re-design. In addition to this re-design a new clubhouse was built providing the ideal space both public and private events. Hale Irwin's design firm was hired to recreate the Courses at Forest Park. Their principal architect, Stan Gentry, took the task of re-working Robert Foulis' work with a keen eye on incorporating the look and feel of the original course. This work can be seen in the revival-style architecture of the bunkers, the shape & countours of the greens, and the roll-off and chipping areas of the course.

Join us for a great day of golf on one of St. Louis’ most historic golf courses.

Beneficiaries

Each year, the Foundation holds a golf tournament benefiting selected charitable organizations and The Bar Plan Foundation Scholarship program. The 2010 Bar Plan Foundation Golf Tournament beneficiaries are:

Turning Point, a 501(c)(3) organization, was formed for the sole purpose of providing shelter and services for victims of domestic violence and their children.  It houses 75 women and 100 children annually. Additionally, it provides assistance with legal issues, case management, budgeting and the services of a licensed counselor.

Care to Learn’s mission is to provide immediate funding and action to meet any emergent health, hunger, or hygiene issue and restore a child’s self-respect so they can get back in the classroom. Having a Care to Learn chapter in their school means many hunger, health, and hygiene issues can be addressed immediately and discreetly. Currently, there are five Care to Learn chapters in the Ozarks, with more than 16,500 students helped since 2008.

The Bar Plan Foundation, established in 1993, awards annual scholarships to third-year law students at several law schools. Each candidate must possess the highest degree of professionalism and ethics. The scholarships are funded from income from the risk management seminars and The Foundation's Annual Golf Tournament. Proceeds from the tournament not only fund the scholarships but also enable the Foundation to contribute to various local not-for-profit organizations.

Past beneficiaries include:
