The Bar Plan Mutual Insurance Company is now providing Alabama attorneys the option to purchase court bonds. The way in which time is calculated for the federal courts will be better defined as of December 1, 2009. For instance: when is 10 days really 14 days? For the federal courts, when weekends or a holiday intervenes. This has been a source of confusion for litigants, lawyers, court staff, and even judges. The Bar Plan recently announced a new service available to Missouri attorneys: a Practice Management Program.

Law firms continue to seek strategies that position themselves to better serve existing and potential clients. The Practice Management Program will assist lawyers in identifying and implementing processes that will improve the quality of service they seek to provide, while reducing the risks associated with the practice of law.

"There's an inclination by law firms in tough economic times to take on a case that they might not ordinarily take," said Couch. "You'll frequently see lawyers making mistakes in those areas."
